“I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories… water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.” ― Clarissa Pinkola Estés
I met Erin and Grace two weeks ago on the most perfect evening in Burlington, Vermont. The sun was setting, creating the softest glow, the wind was blowing, and the birds were singing. Erin had reached out to me because she wanted to capture these fleeting moments with her daughter Grace before the new babe is born.
I originally planned on photographing Erin at a different location and decided last minute to change it – It’s always good to follow your instincts; as the new location was pure perfection. When we arrived there was a “Celebration of Life” happening nearby with a band playing classic 80’s Rock n’ Roll. Grace and I enjoyed every second and even shared a couple of dances between shooting, literally becoming best buddies. We spent most of our time allowing Grace the space to be her amazing little self all while dodging hundreds of slugs. (Erin, you were a champ!) During the session I kept telling Erin, “This is a dream session. It feels like we’re old friends hanging out…” And I truly meant every word.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. The love and gratitude I feel after photographing such genuine connection leaves me feeling like I’m on Cloud 9. I feel so fortunate to capture each and every person I photograph. Thank you Erin and Grace for a wonderful experience.
